Honor/Memorial/Tribute Programs

A gift in honor of or memory of provides an opportunity for you to remember or recognize someone of significant in a very special way while supporting the important work of The Foundation for the History of Women in Medicine.

Each gift in the Honor/Memorial/Tribute Program is acknowledged not only to the donor  (person or persons initiating the gift) but also to the individual or family of the designee being recognized or memorialized.  We insure that the families of those being honored are aware of your tribute. We encourage honor/memorial gifts to be a minimum of $25.00 to insure covering the processing costs involved with acknowledging these types of gifts. The tribute program requires a minimum combined gift of $1000.

Note: all gifts to the Foundation, including Honor/Memorial/Tribute Gifts will be recognized in our honor roll of donors published with the Foundation’s fall newsletter.

Options:

   Honor/Memorial

  1. Individual Donor

You make a donation in memory/honor of someone and you (the donor) are acknowledged for your tax-deductible gift.  The intended honoree or memorial designee/family would also receive notification that a gift was made in his/her honor/memory.

  1. A Group of Donors

Often, with birthdays, promotions, retirements, etc there is an opportunity for an individual to be recognized by a number of colleagues and/or peers.  This presents another ideal opportunity for an honor gift.  All donors will be acknowledged for their gifts made in honor of a recognized individual, and that honoree will be provided with a list of those making gifts in his/her honor.

   Tribute

This program provides regional medical communities the opportunity to gain national recognition for regional medical professions who have made a contribution to the history of women in medicine or demonstrated interest in the history of women in medicine.  The program, simultaneously, provides charitable support to the Foundation.

A “Hall of Fame” or Gallery of Significant Women in Medicine will be created on the FHWIM website to recognize those individuals honored in the Tribute Program.  Photos and a biography will be included on the site. A minimum gift of $1000, collectively donated by a number of interested colleagues, friends and/or family, will be required for inclusion in the Tribute Program.  The Foundation will develop criteria and guidelines for appropriate tribute recipients.  Materials to support the Tribute Program are being developed.

  Named Funds

In situation where there is significant interest in memorializing or recognizing an individual, named funds can be established with a minimum of $25,000 in combined gifts.  These funds support projects within the Foundation and will bear the name of the designee (i.e. The Susan Smith Fund.)
